Phase 3 Amplified Discipleship Concepts
Lessons to deepen understanding of the Phase 1 lessons.
Lesson 3-5 Lordship Principles
This lesson will help to reinforce and provide further understanding of my decision to acknowledge His Lordship over my life, and recognize Christ as my Master. We covered Lordship in Lesson 1-7.
3-5 Introduction (2:08 min.)
3-5 Point 2 God's ownership of me is an actual fact!(1:27 min.)
3-5 Point 4 Salvation speaks of a foundation, Jesus Christ, upon who I will build on. (1:31 min.)
3-5 Point 5 As a disciple, I should allow the Holy Spirit access to every area of my being. (1:21 min.)
3-5 Point 8 God expects those things I value to be yielded to His Lordship. (1:36 min.)
3-5 Point 12a Terminology that describes Lordship - The marriage convenant. (1:59 min.)
3-5 Point 12d Terminology that describes Lordship - The car illustration. (1:10 min.)
3-5 Point 12e Terminology that describes Lordship - Illustration of two doors. (2:04 min.)
3-5 Point 13 My life can be catagorized into three areas. (2:06 min.)
Lesson 3-6 Lesson 3-6 God Was at Work in 3 Areas of Job’s Life
The story of Job is often presented with an emphasis on “suffering and patience.” We believe the greater lesson is one of “how God molds His children.” This series of videos looks at the three area that God allowed Job to suffer in and looks at Job's responses and the way in which Elihu tries to restor Job as described in Galatians 6:1-2, which is a model for how we are to help restore other believers when we see them out of abiding fellowship with the Lord.
3-6 Part 1 The 3 "Areas" of our Lives (3:01 min.)
We can divide our lives into three distinct categories. 1) Time 2) Energy 3) Possessions. These three areas of my life is where I need to yield my independence and acknowledge His Lordship authority.
3-6 Part 2 God's Sovereignty Examples (3:47 min.)
Art & Toni Barkley share how the response of two different believers differs towards God's Sovereiginity
3-6 Job Part 3 Points 1-6 (5:46 min.)
We look at how God puts a "Hedge of Protection" around each believer and only allows The Enemy permission into each "Area" by degrees.
3-6 Part 4 Points 8-9 (5:26 min.)
God reveals to Job, the true reason why he allowed calamity to come into his life - Because Job had a distorted view of his own "goodness" based on his human understanding.
3-6 Job Part 5 Restoration to Abiding FellowshipLesson (1:47 min.)
The way in which Elihu gently and humbly pointed out Job’s error is a worthy example of Galatians 6:1-2, where the Lord instructs us: Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so you also won’t be tempted. Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal. 6:1-2)
Lesson 3-8 My "Old Self" and My "New Self" Walking in the Spirit
This lesson uses Ephesians 4 & 5 where the Apostle Paul is making a contrast between walking in the flesh to walking in the Spirit. This lesson addresses the topic of how to grow new believers.
Lesson 3-8 Part 1 of 2 (18:15 min.)
Lesson 3-8 Part 2 of 2 (13:24 min.)
Lesson 3-11 Jesus, God's Son, is our Model for Continual Abiding

Lesson 3-11 Point 2 (1:32 min.)
Lesson 3-11 Points 3-4 (1:08 min.)
Lesson 3-11 Point 5 (1:32 min.)
Lesson 3-12 Abiding Analogy Using the Temple
In Lesson 1-4 we used the body, soul and spirit to depict the human anatomy. The “circle inside of the circle” is one way to depict the human anatomy. In this lesson we focus on the Temple and the spiritual truths and “types” that are built into the Temple that are an analogy of our spiritual life.

Phase 2 Mentor Training
Guidelines for those who want to disciple/mentor other believers, explanation of Balanced Discipleship and a discussion on how new believers grow spiritually.
Lesson 2-1 10 Reasons Why Personal Discipleship is Needed
10 reasons why we believe that personal discipleship (spiritual parenting) is needed, in addition to corporate discipleship. In these discussions we attempt to identify areas of spiritual need in order to prayerfully seek God’s solutions.
2-1 Part 1 of 3 (18:25 min.)
2-1 Part 2 of 3 (23:27 min.)
2-1 Part 3 of 3 (18:15 min.)
Lesson 2-2 What is Personal Discipleship?
To most Christians the term "discipleship" simply equates to "Presenting Biblical Truth". More accurately we believe the concept of "Spiritual parenting / mentoring" more accurately reflects the Biblical meaning of discipleship.
2-2 Part 1 of 3 (16:29 min.)
2-2 Part 2 of 3 (25:28 min.)
2-2 Part 3 of 3 (22:09 min.)
Lesson 2-3 Growing New Believers
This lesson addresses the topic of how to grow new believers.
How does a new believer acquire spiritual understanding? In our discipleship workshops we ask the question to Christian leaders, “would you prefer to place a new believer in your congregation knowing that they were going to become like the typical person in your congregation?” How do you think they answer? What's your response?
2-3 Part 1 of 5 (26:46 min.)
2-3 Part 2 of 5 (19:24 min.)
2-3 Parable of the Sower (19:24 min.)
Using the parable of the Sower from Matthew and Luke we look at the four groups presented in the narrative and apply it to those believers that are discipled versus those that are not discipled.
2-3 Spiritually Is Graded on The Curve (10:25 min.)
Spiritual maturity is typically graded on the curve. If you're in a church and everybody is very immature and you're just a "little" immature don't you feel good about yourself? You say, "I'm ahead of those guys." God knows where every believer is and God holds you accountable for where He knows you are. He doesn't hold you accountable for how you are compared to someone else. We need to disciple new believers and help them to get started so that they don't go through their Christian life comparing themselves to other people.
2-3 Discipled vs. Undiscipled Believers (20:56 min.)
Using a timeline of a Christian's life, the purpose of this diagram is to convey what happens to a new believer that is discipled versus a believer that is not discipled.
Lesson 2-4 What is a Biblical Disciple?
What Is a Biblical Disciple? To many Christians the term “disciple” speaks of a believer who exhibits "correct Christian behavior". Since one’s behavior is a product of one’s convictions and values, we believe being a “disciple” more accurately reflects a believer’s disposition of the heart relationship with the Lord. In this lesson we seek to focus on a disciple’s heart attitude, rather than just what a disciple “does.”

Introduction and Assessment
An overview of how the DTI manual is arranged and how to use the two diagnostic tools to help you as the mentor discern the spiritual maturity level of the mentee and possible gaps in their understanding.
Intro 1 The DTI Mission Statement
Discipler Training International, a non-denominational discipleship ministry, provides free discipleship resources for training disciplers (spiritual mentors) to help every Christian grow in spiritual maturity (Colossians 1:28), spiritual fruitfulness (John 15:8) and spiritual reproduction. (2 Timothy 2:2). Listen as Art Barkley discusses how DTI can assist churches in reaching these goals.
Intro-1 Our Mission Statement (4:16 min.)
Intro-3 The Need for Balanced Discipleship
We think most church leaders would agree that the Body of Christ is not having the impact on the world that we would desire. There are a myriad of reasons that can be put forth as to why the Church is not more spiritually healthy.
At a seminar, the following statement was made: “The system you have in place is perfectly designed for the results you are getting”. We believe that the Church has strayed from God’s model for spiritual growth.
The typical church has been successful in providing what we refer to as “Corporate Discipleship”, which is an essential element for healthy individual spiritual growth, as well as for healthy church growth.
However, we believe there is another element that is essential to normal healthy spiritual growth, which we refer to as “Personal Discipleship”.
Intro-3 The Need For Balanced Discipleship (5:11 min.)
Intro-4 The Course Timeline
The DTI discipleship manual is divided into three Phases. Phase 1 is what you would present to a new believer to help them to understand how to walk with the Holy Spirit, how to follow God, and what the Christian life is all about. Phase 2 is the philosophy of discipleship; why disciple, what is the disciple, and how to disciple. Phase 3 is a continuation of Phase 1, what we call amplified discipleship concepts.
Intro-4 How the Manual is configured (2:56 min.)
Assessment-1 - 5 Biblical Concepts Every Believer Needs to Know
As you begin the spiritual mentoring process with a disciple, use the 5 Concepts Every New Believer Needs to Understand to help diagnose the spiritual maturity level of the believer. It will help you determine gaps in their understanding moving forward using Phase 1.
5 Biblical Concepts Every Believer Needs to Know (5:35 min.)
Assessment-2 - Where Am I As A Christian?
Many believers don't know where they are spiritually. This diagnostic tool is intended to help mentors and mentees evaluate where they are in relation to four "spiritual catagories." Pastors and Leaders can also " look" out at their congeration, and discern, based on the qualities listed who might need spiritual mentoring and who might best be a spiritual mentor. The lesson is located in the Assessment section of the DTI manual. Or, download this lesson in PDF format.

Where Am I As A Christian Group #3 (4:09 min.)
Where Am I As A Christian Group #4 (1:28 min.)
Phase 1 - Understanding the Christian Life
Foundational concepts and principles to be used in the mentoring process, focusing on inward transformation and the heart attitude rather than behavior manipulation.
Lesson 1-1 Abbreviated Overview of the “Normal” Christian Life
Lesson 1-1 is a practical overview of the Normal Christian life. We visualize the Christian life as a picture - as a box top for a jig-saw puzzle. We want to help you mentally connect the puzzle “pieces” (Biblical Truths) to God's overall plan for your life.
The Spiritual Mentor may also find “gaps” in the understanding of the mentee that will help determine the pace of future lessons.
1-1 Part 1 of 2 (11:18 min.)
1-1 Part 2 of 2 (9:46 min.)
Lesson 1-2 Knowing God
This lesson asks the question, what is spiritual maturity? In the video you'll learn that spiritual maturity is the degree that God has been able to change your thinking to see life from His perspective. Spiritual maturity is not how well you're behaving or how many good things you're doing or how much of the Bible you're reading or how often you go to church or anything else. Spiritual maturity is how much do you see life from God's perspective. (Romans 12:1-2)
This lesson covers four main areas: 1) My Attitude, 2) God's Word, 3) Prayer, 4) Corporate Gatherings.
1-2 Point 1 (8:48 min.)
Point #1 asks the question, what is spiritual maturity? In the video you'll learn that spiritual maturity is the degree that God has been able to change your thinking to see life from His perspective. Spiritual maturity is not how well you're behaving or how many good things you're doing or how much of the Bible you're reading or how often you go to church or anything else. Spiritual maturity is how much do you see life from God's perspective.
1-2 Point 2 Part 1 of 2 (5:30 min.)
Point 2 discusses God’s Word, the Bible. Be aware of the importance of allowing the Lord to speak to us through His Word because as He speaks to us through His word He's pushing us towards the truth. The Bible is the truth and as you allow it the truth will impact your mind. He is moving us towards the absolute truth, whereas anything else in this world will try to push us away from the truth.
1-2 Point 2 Part 2 of 2 (5:48 min.)
This video continues to help the disciple understand the nuances of reading the Bible. For example, is the idea to just spend some time in the Bible and then go on about your business? That's not the way to look at our time in the Bible. God wants us to ponder, contemplate, meditate on the things that He wants to speak to us about. It's not something that comes naturally though. We are told to let the Word of Christ dwell within us.
1-2 Point 3 Part 1 of 3 (5:38 min.)
Point 3 is about our prayer life with God. As we think about prayer we need a balance. On one hand we have an awesome God who created the universe and at the other extreme we have a God who wants to be personally involved in every part of our life. To have the right balance we don't want to take God for granted. We want to come to God with reverence, but not in a mechanical sense. Think about this: God keeps every atom of every single piece of His creation in place and yet at the same time that same God is interested in the minute details of our lives.
1-2 Point 3 Part 2 of 3 (6:00 min.)
Continuing our discussion on prayer. Proverbs 3:5-6 says to "acknowledge or include God" in your decision making process. So prayer can be continual. Continually include Him in all our ways. To acknowledge Him means to include Him by saying, "God I want your input." Include God in our moment by moment decision making process. God wants us to have this habit of including Him.
1-2 Point 3 Part 3 of 3 (6:22 min.)
Prayer includes adoration, thanksgiving, praise, confession, reconciliation, forgiveness, supplications, requests for personal needs, requests for the needs of others and intercession. We should reflect on that on a frequent basis. Prayer is just not saying I need, I need, I need. There are other things that God wants us to be concerned with beyond our "gimme" attitude.
1-2 Inward Transformation NOT Behavior Manipulation (4:57 min.)
This is a supplemental video for Lesson 1-2. A believer’s level of spiritual maturity is the degree to which the Holy Spirit has been able to change their inward value system in His direction. Many believers are very good at manipulating their behavior to “appear” to behave correctly, but NOT allowing God to transform their thinking which will produce the behavior that is pleasing to Him. This video reveals the correlation between how many parents discipline their children and how many believers manipulate their behavior to "appear" good.
Lesson 1-3 Salvation Principles
The Christian life should not be based just around salvation but on Christ. Salvation is just the entrance into the Christian life. This lesson provides some basic concepts concerning salvation such as: Mercy & Grace, God's Principle of Substitution, and the difference between "Christianity and Religion".
1-3 Points 1-2 (4:09 min)
1-3 Points 3-6 (9:15 min)
Lesson 1-4 The Spiritual Anatomy of a Christian
This lesson is a transition lesson describing the "circle inside of a circle" which will be used in many future lessons. We want the new believer to see the interactivity of the spirit, soul and body and at the same time realize they have different functions.
Lesson 1-5 My Human Nature & God's Divine Nature
This lesson is intended to help clarify the events which have led to our present condition of the believer having two natures. We provide a description of God's nature and how the "enemy" wants to distort it. It's important to focus on God's Character and the Scripture verses in this lesson because as you spiritually mentor a believer, you will constantly fall back on this lesson, and revisit God's character, and why you can trust Him.

Lesson 1-6 How To Relate to The Holy Spirit
As you disciple a new believer you have introduced them to the two natures and helped them to understand that they have their old nature they inherited from Adam and the Divine new nature from God in the person of the Holy Spirit. Now we want to introduce the disciple to the personality of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a person.

In John 15, Jesus is depicted as the vine and I as a Christian am the branch and the Holy Spirit produces the fruit. The main point is that the believer is simply a vessel or conduit through which the light flows.
1-10 (7:58 min.)
Lesson 1-11 Abiding Today, The Present, This Moment
God wants me to be free from the burden of unresolved issues of the past or the future allowing Him freedom to produce fruit in my life. If I'm not abiding with the Holy Spirit, why not?

In this lesson we review the principles of Salvation, Lordship, Abiding and His Fruit produced through me. The 2nd part of this lesson is a true story of "Vera" that illustrates the principles reviewed in Part 1.
1-13 (11:09 min.)
Lesson 1-14 Hardships, Suffering & God's Sovereignty
One of the main purposes of this lesson is to present the idea that God allows suffering in this life for Christians. Many Christians begin the Christian life with the idea that now that I'm saved there is no more suffering. We're attempting to present a balanced view of suffering. We want to help Christians to understand that suffering is a normal part of the Christian life. We are to learn through suffering.

Lesson 1-16 Christian Maturity
Growing in Spiritual Maturity refers to the process in which the Holy Spirit transforms my spiritual understanding (values, priorities) in order to increase the flow of His life (His Living Water) through me. As more of His life is free to flow through me, there will be an ever-increasing measure of His spiritual fruit in my life.

Live Crosspointe Archives
Frank and Jeannette Meitz started a 16 week “Equipping the Saints” class for a church in Largo, Florida. The purpose of the class is to prepare and equip the faithful men and women who have a desire to come alongside new believers and mentor them using the DTI manual, A Tool for Personal Discipleship.
These videos were recorded live at the church's administrative office.
Spiritual Mentoring Mondays
Welcome to Spiritual Mentoring Mondays
DTI invited partner churches throughout the United States and Canada to participate in virtual Spiritual Mentoring Mondays to train and equip disciplers-to-be / spiritual mentors.
Since the live timing isn’t convenient for everyone, we have made the recordings available to be used by churches / individuals. You can host your own small group (virtually or in person), showing the teaching, followed by your own discussion group, with the goal of “making disciples who make disciples.” 2 Timothy 2:2
FORMAT:
- Approximately 30 minute training segment, hosted by Frank and Jeannette Meitz from DTI, followed by each church going to a virtual breakout room for interactive discussions led by a facilitator.
- DTI provides a handout of suggested discussion topics and questions to stimulate conversations. However, each church leader can guide the conversation and process as they deem best.
- We recommend that each participant have a Bible and either the DTI App or printed book during the sessions. (available to download free) Click here to get the DTI App. Click here to download and / or print the DTI manual.
Note that these sessions present an overview, additional information, and are for encouragement of mentoring. For complete training / teaching on each lesson, click here.
Intentional Discipleship Communities
What is an Intentional Discipleship Community?
It is a group of believers getting together regularly to seek the Lord for His presence, unity, and a fresh anointing in His individual and collective calling and mission.
The group will wrestle with questions many Christians face, such as:
- How do I recognize God’s will and plan for my life?
- Can I REALLY trust God to take care of things that are important to me when I surrender them to Him?
- What do I have to do to please God? What does it mean to live the normal Christian life?
- Who is the Holy Spirit, and how does He fit into my daily life?
By experiencing the Lord in such a group, we truly desire that every disciple of Jesus Christ will continually be living In the abundant life.
These recordings took place at Crosspointe Church in Largo Florida, where our "community" gathered each Sunday for prayer, fellowship and teachings from all three Phases of the DTI Manual, "A Tool For Personal Discipleship".
DTI invites you to use these videos and the accompanying PDF handouts to lead your own Intentional Discipleship Communities as you journey in the Spiritual Promised Land.
Note that these lessons and videos are also available in the DTI app. Click here to download the app.
